Active transportation clears your head
Learn more about the different modes of active transportation and how you can integrate them into your public transit trips.
What is active transportation?
It simply means that you’re travelling using your own energy. The most common active transportation modes are walking and cycling. That being said, there is also skateboarding, rollerblading and even skiing. If you use public transit, chances are that part of your commute is already done by active transportation. So why not integrate it into your lifestyle a little more?
Active transportation is good for
your mood
Active transportation is great me-time.
Take advantage of your commute to grab some fresh air, go at your own pace and enjoy some me time. A few minutes of walking or cycling is all it takes to help improve your focus and work performance as well as reduce stress and anxiety. What else could you ask for?
your health
Active transportation is great for both your mental and physical health.
The World Health Organization recommends 150 minutes of physical activity every week1. By using active transportation, you move more and have a better chance of reaching your health goals without even going to the gym.
the planet
If you take public transit, you’re already helping to make the Earth healthier, but you can do even more!
Did you know that road transportation alone creates 34.4% of GHG emissions2? The more you use active transportation, the fewer motorized vehicles on the roads. That way, you can help reduce GHG emissions and improve air quality.

Plan stratégique de développement du transport collectif
The first Plan stratégique de développement (PSD) du transport collectif to promote public transit in the Greater Montreal Area was adopted by the ARTM’s board of directors in April 2021. We have submitted it to the Quebec government for a compliance analysis with governmental land use guidelines. Following this step, which will be completed in the next few months, the plan will be presented to the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) for final approval.
The plan will present concrete solutions to today’s major issues and aims to make active and public transportation the main commuting modes by 2050 in the Greater Montreal Area.
